Graphology is the study of Personality from a person’s handwriting. There are a number of misconceptions associated with this “artful science”. Many place graphology along side such things as Tarot card reading and other ‘fortune telling’ practices. This cannot be further from the truth. Graphology cannot “predict the future or tell you about dead relatives”. Graphology is a psychology that can reveal a person’s unconscious drives, their fears, thinking and learning abilities, and much, much more. In Europe graphology is widely used in the field of recruitment and an estimated 75% of major companies in France use graphology as a standard part of there recruitment process.

Graphology gives a much better understanding of the unconscious drives of an individual compared to conventional psychometric testing, though these methods can work well to provide additional information.

Writing is not merely a physical function but is an expression of what is occurring in the brain and neurological system. Harvard Psychologists Allport and Vernon suggest that writing is not merely handwriting but ‘brainwriting’. As we grow and mature our personality is shaped by innumerable influences making us the individuals we are. As we grow and learn the art of handwriting our personality shows itself through the unconscious movement of the pen upon the page.

The concept of Emotional Quotient (EQ) was popularised by Daniel Goleman. It is increasingly recognised as an important factor in success at work and within personal relationships. Two important factors are our intrapersonal (basically self-awareness) and interpersonal skills (basically our understanding of others).
Golemans theory is that when it comes to predicting people’s success, brainpower as measured by traditional IQ {Intelligence Quotient} tests and other cognitive tests matter less than the qualities of mind known as “Character” or EQ. Graphology is an excellent indicator of a person’s EQ.
